Colors of The Decade

Every year, since 2000, The Pantone Color Institute has released "The Color of The Year". Along with the color, Pantone explains why the color was chosen.

*I see that 2019 is not included...the color is "Living Coral"*

So I'm going to give my observations and favorite colors from the past decade. [I can't believe I'm saying that...I didn't act like this in 2010.]

Observations

1. Variations of yellow and red were not featured as colors of the year. 2012's Tangerine Tango is close to red but it is not red; it's an "exotic" orange color. Also, tangerines are orange.

2. This is less an observation and more of a fact. 2016 had two Colors of The Year, Rose Quartz and Serenity, which are on opposite sides of the color wheel, yet both colors have "frosty" appearances.

3. Blue colors have been the most common of the Color of The Year since 2000.

Classic Blue

On that note, let's quickly discuss Classic Blue, Pantone's Color of the Year for 2020. It is a familiar shade yet, it also something new. In Pantone's explanation for Classic Blue, they said we (the people of the world) could use something classic in these dizzying times of constant change.

I think Classic Blue will be a statement color for the year and decade ahead.

Favorite Colors, Best and Worst Color

Facts and observations aside, I want to tell you my favorite and least favorite colors!

These are my favorite colors of the decade!

Honeysuckle, 2011: It's pink and I love pink.

Emerald, 2013: It's not your typical green and I love that, it's bright and inspiring.

Radiant Orchid, 2014: The color is ok, but I love the name "Radiant Orchid" and orchid flowers.

Rose Quartz, 2016: This is one of my favorite colors to wear because it's so fresh and pretty.

Ultra Violet, 2018: I love the name, Pantone's explanation, and the color. It's a strong color.

The best Color of The Decade is Turquoise from 2010.

I chose this color because I remember it's prevalence so well. It was on everything prom dresses, purses, jewelry, and even home appliances. 2010 may be long gone but this color is here to stay. I love turquoise. It reminds me of all the good times. Turquoise looks good on every skin tone and can be seen everywhere.

I've given you the best, so now I've got to give you the WORST color of the decade.

This is the worst color of the decade. I hate coral in general. It doesn't know what to be. Is it orange? Is it pink? A weirdly diluted mix of red and yellow? No one knows. PICK ONE CORAL!!!! I do like the name "Living Coral", however, that doesn't negate the fact that I hate coral.

My distaste for coral aside, I think that "In Living Coral" is the color that best describes my year. I do feel that I was living in 2019. I did so many new things, met amazing new people, and traveled all across the world. I may not have been living in coral, but I was really living.

Life is colorful,
